Getting around Geneva

If you have just arrived in Geneva, or about to in the coming days, things can get pretty confusing even for French speakers. We have compiled a list of few things below to get you started.

Free public transportation
Upon arrival at Geneva airport, you can grab a free transportation ticket right near the exit after baggage pickup. The ticket is offered by the Geneva Airport and is valid for travel anywhere in Geneva for 80 minutes.
Public transportation

Geneva offers a great public transportation system called the TPG. You can download the app to your cellphone, which allows you to check transportation schedules and buy tickets.

To get around, you can either buy individual tickets from the booth installed at every bus/tram stop, or from your cellphone. Just send an SMS to 788:

  • “tpg1” for a full price ticket (3 CHF).

  • “tpg2” for a reduced fare (2 CHF).

Check out www.tpg.ch for details on how to get a reduced fare card.

You can also buy seasonal or yearly passes that are less expensive in the long run:

  • 500 CHF per year for adult (25 and over).

  • 400 CHF per year for junior (24 and under).

Free bikes

If you like to stretch your legs or go for a ride once in a while, you can rent bikes for free all around Geneva until October. Genève Roule offers free bike rentals for the first 4 hours, and 2 CHF per hour after that.

You can take out the bikes and return them at any Genève Roule rental spots.

Make sure to bring :

  • 20 CHF as deposit.

  • A piece of personal ID.

Important: if you have paid Euros for safety deposit, you’ll only be getting Swiss Francs back, so make sure to have the local currency with you!

Enjoy your Geneva trip !
