"T'es où?" (French for "Where are you?") is an exhibit offered by the History of Science Museum in Geneva, an activity that invites you to discover how we used to find our position geographically before we had GPS.
We ask each other "where are you?" over the phone just about a hundred times every day. This is an easy question to answer now that we have GPS, but how did we do it before? It's through this adventurous discovery that you'll realize how we did it.
We defined our positions through reference points - be it the stars in the sky, the magnetic north pole, a church's bell or a mountain's peak. Discover topography instruments that help us find our directions and our way: telescope, graphometers, theodolites, compass and dividers...
With or without a compass, you can complete the exhibition through an introductory activity in the Perle du Lac park - an event that lets you appreciate the beauty of the trees, amazing statues and discover science on your way!
Ask for the activity at the welcome desk, this is a discovery that is suitable for families with children or for groups of friends.

Cette exposition proposée par le Musée d'histoire des sciences vous propose de découvrir comment on définissait les positions géographiques avant le GPS.
Entendue et prononcée 100 fois par jour, "T'es où?" rythme les conversations téléphoniques. A l'heure du GPS, on y répond facilement, mais comment faisait-on avant? C'est à la découverte de cette aventure que cette exposition vous invite. La définition d'une position nécessite des points de référence, que ce soient des étoiles, le nord magnétique, le clocher d'une église ou encore le sommet des montagnes: découvrez les instruments de topographie qui permettent cette orientation, des lunettes aux graphomètres, en passant par les théodolites, boussoles et autres cartes compas. Avec ou sans boussole, complétez cette exposition par un parcours d'initiation à la course d'orientation dans le parc de la Perle du Lac, à la rencontre d'arbres remarquables, de statues insolites et d'éléments scientifiques!
